For the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the date palm is of outstanding historical importance. It was through the planting of these trees, promoted by political leaders, that the areas nomads were able to become settled farmers.
Because a state can only be formed with sedentary citizens. A museum was to be dedicated to the central importance of the date palm and its nutritious fruit, illustrating all the aspects of the region’s "tree-of-life”.
The tree’s history and mythology were to come alive at numerous interactive stations. As a continuous narrative, a date palm which was planted as a seedling in the first year of the UAE would reflect the development of the state of Abu Dhabi. An additional narrative level would be formed by virtual objects and animations that could be discovered with a tablet or smartphone.
